Website Review

This weeks website review is on the website http://www.dept.nl/ - a very active and busy website. When you first visit the website you are confronted by a large pixelated button asking you "what is cool?". From there a new page opens up with a bunch of 3d buttons with sound effects. Some of the links on the website are not active which can get frustrating because you never really know where you are going or what will show up. If you click on "solo par adulti" you will click through a barrage of confusing and eye hurting pages until you get to one with many frames open. In the frames are pixelated images of naked women. Sound is used quite effectively here as the "women" are speaking to you as you click on them. After awhile they become quite overwhelming which could represent a redlight district and all the women asking you if you want a good time. None of the original buttons link back to the main site and overall the site is a mess but it is intriguing.

Is it normal to feel panic when viewing a website? Because this website makes me feel completely overwhelmed. I agree with you 100% when you say that there is just too much going on. On the homepage, every time you move your mouse over a link it makes an absurdly loud bang noise, and because the homepage is entirely covered in links, you can't move your mouse without hearing that sound. It was hard enough to make it to a link I wanted to view without clicking the 'X' on the window just to get rid of the noise. The rest of the web pages don't particularly resonate with me either...a lot of the content seems like it is a lot of random, postmodern type material that is somehow supposed to be clever because it is random and 'must mean something'. There's my two cents.
